NSPCC

A winter character was required to be the face of NSPCC's Christmas campaign against the cruelty to children. Animated in flash performing a number of different actions, files were delivered to the client where they went on to get coded into a flash screensaver downloadable from the NSPCC website.

2D/3D Character Design & Animation

Give it some character!

From character design and illustration to producing full colour character bibles and fully animated character sequences in either 2D or 3D, we can do the lot! Whether it is for final broadcast on the web, television or as part of an interactive DVD, we can supply you with the complete package from concept to creation. We don't limit ourselves to a particular style but instead enjoy the challenge of designing characters' aesthetics and personality to meet the requirements of the project.

Gavin worked extensively on this pilot episode during his time with Pepper's Ghost. Main points to look out for: facial animation and lip-sync; quality of the motion capture data applied to the rigs; character lighting and render quality. He was supervising the motion capture shoot where he had the chance to put his acting skills to work and get in front of the cameras himself! He was also Scene Integrator for the project and Production Technician.

Gavin directed and animated this introduction for the Wallace and Gromit computer game, 'Project Zoo'. He story-boarded the four minute animation, animated all the characters and props, integrated all the characters, props and environments into the scenes and supervised rendering. Plenty of time was spent studying the Aardman style of animation in order to keep the authenticity of the characters. Gavin worked closely with animators from Aardman in order to ensure the whole look of the animation was as true to its claymation roots as possible. Cracking fun, Gromit!

Gavin worked on a selection of in-game animations for the computer game RollerCoaster Tycoon 3. He worked to develop an effective pipeline to get the animations into the game with expressions and animated sequences that blended together seamlessly. Hundreds of in-game animations were conceived and animated for a variety of different characters, props and rides to give the game as immersive and believable an environment as possible.

Shorts

This is a project Liquid Spyglass is using as a research and development piece. We wanted to play with different animation mediums and composite them so they appear seamless. For the main character Liquid Spyglass designed and built a fully automated rig with facial expressions. The cyclops dude has a basic IK rig but the geometry is set up so it appears to originate from a flexible material and then set like metal. The bird and the dust are all 2D drawn and composited together. This is still in production with plenty more to experiment with.
